White vinegar

Recently I've been trying to use non-toxic materials like baking soda and white vinegar to clean the house.

Hence I've also been looking for a good cheap source of bulk ingredients. Today I found 10L containers of white vinegar at Moore Wilson's for $6.55—by far the best option I've come across to date.

  1. How's that working out? Are they as efficacious as claimed?

  2. They take a bit more effort than commercial cleaning products, but overall they work fine. My shower is directly over a lino floor covered with non-slip nubbles that trap dirt very annoyingly, and baking soda actually works better to clean it than any commercial product I've tried. I confess find the toilet starts to look a bit grubby after a while, and still Harpic it sometimes. However, handbasin, floors, fridge—all fine.

  3. How do you use white vinegar and baking soda as cleaning products? What recipes do you use for what circumstances?
